UCBM is an international centre of education, health services and scientific research. The close links between the Faculties of Medicine and Biomedical Engineering, the Integrated Centre of Research and the modern hospital provide an optimal environment to develop and apply patient-oriented technologies, and to perform basic and clinical research.Treatment and research are approached with a multidisciplinary view in order to achieve the best results for the patients.
The UCBM Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology is specialized in the surgical treatment of degenerative and traumatic diseases of the musculoskeletal system, in particular spine surgery and upper and lower limbs. The Spine Unit is coordinated by Prof. Vincenzo Denaro, a world-renown Spinal and Orthopaedic Surgeon and currently President of the Italian Spine Surgery Society (SICV&GIS).
The Research Unit is also equipped with a Laboratory of Regenerative Orthopeadics where basic and preclinical research is performed. Two full time biologist with histology, cell and molecular biology expertise as well work in the laboratory.
Gianluca Vadalà, MD, PhD
Is an Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon since 2009 with a PhD in Tissue Regeneration obtained in 2012 at UCBM. He achieved also a MBA in Healthcare administration in 2013 at UCBM.
He is member of the major International and National Scientific Society in Spine Surgery, Orthopaedic Research and Regenerative Medicine.
Prof. Rocco Papalia, MD, PhD
Is currently Associate Professor of Orthopedics at UCBM, director of the Orthopaedic Department and of the residency program in Orthoppaedic Surgery. In 2006 performed a visiting research fellowship for Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh (PA-USA).
Prof. Vincenzo Denaro, MD
Is professor emertitus of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery since 2000. Currently, he has served as the coordinator of the Spine Unit of the Department of Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery of UCBM. He has been the Director of the Residency Program in Orthopaedic Surgery for more than 20 years.
Fabrizio Russo, MD
is Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery Resident working in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology at UCBM. In 2012 he has been awarded with the North American Spine Society (NASS) Research Traveling Fellowship, the Biospina Award by the Italian Society of Spinal Surgery (SICV&GIS)
Carlo Cosimo Quattrocchi, MD PhD
is Assistant Professor in Diagnostic Imaging and Neuroradiology at UCBM and serves as Clinical Manager at the Unit of Diagnostic Imaging of the UCBM Hospital. He received the PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Brescia (IT) in 2004 and achieved a fellowship in Pediatric Neuroradiology at the Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù in 2011.
